Prototyper [proh-tuh-tahyp-er] – noun: a person who devises and executes prototypes, esp. one who creates mechanisms, casings, and component parts, for works of design or concepts. Can include: development of lash-up models; CAD modelling for prototypes and creation of pre-production models.

Not to be confused with technician with no design experience or designer without practical experience or mechanical understanding.
